Rattan is considered to be one of the strongest woods available, since its grain grows vertically instead of forming the concentric rings of most other hardwoods. The straight wood is usually steamed and then bent into shape. Once dried, it will retain its shape and strength forever. Rattan comes from a vine like palm grown under license in the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam. The Grey colour is achieved by dipping the rattan in a specific liquid, which soaks into the rattan giving the varied shading, which makes their colouring interesting.

Very sturdy
Well this was a surprise, what a lovely basket. Much stronger than the photo shows! It is slightly bigger than the average waste paper bin but perfect for our bathroom or even study.Posted promptly, boxed well, only small complaint is that it smells a little farm yardy but that’s natural products for you. It will fade.Most impressed by this basket.
