The original shocks on the Protector are okay. They do just fine. However, for a few bucks more, you can do a great upgrade to these all metal, oil capped shocks. They're a direct replacement, and all you need is a screwdriver to swap them out. Hint: while your swapping out to these great shocks, go ahead and change the mounting point closest to the center, on the lower frame of the swing arm. This gives the buggy a little more ground clearance, like a lift kit. These shocks also rebound a little more realistically, not as stiff as the original shocks. You will want to do both front and back, of course. Hint: to change out the front shocks, you will have to remove the 'hood' and when you do, you will also be partially disconnecting the top front frame from the bottom front, and replacing those screws is kind of touchy. Keep a small bowel on hand to hold the screws or you might lose them. The two pictures are before and after the upgrade. Great purchase. Five stars.
